O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB2048 by Williams (Relating to the establishment of a centralized sex offender registration authority in certain counties in this state.), As Introduced    No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to authorize in a county with a population of 100,000 or more that the commissioners court may designate the sheriff's office, or through an interlocal agreement the office of a chief of a municipal police department within the county, to serve as a mandatory countywide registration location for persons required to register as a sex offender. Local Government Impact It is assumed that an applicable county would establish a centralized countywide registration authority if sufficient resources were available.
