This bill allows the judge of the 130th Judicial District to select a bailiff to serve the court. S.B. 2554 amends current law relating to the appointment of a bailiff for the 130th Judicial District. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 53.002(a), Government Code, to authorize the judges of certain district courts, including the 130th district court, to each appoint a bailiff. SECTION 2. Amends Section 53.004(b), Government Code, to make a conforming change. SECTION 3. Amends Section 53.007(a), Government Code, to make a conforming change. SECTION 4. Amends Section 53.008, Government Code, to make a conforming change. SECTION 5. Amends Section 53.009, Government Code, by adding Subsection (n), to entitle a bailiff appointed by the judge of the 130th District Court to receive a salary set by the Commissioners Court of Matagorda County in an amount that is not less than the salary of a deputy sheriff regularly assigned to patrol duty in the county.
