A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a project that may be undertaken by a development
corporation to promote higher education opportunities in this
state.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 501, Local Government
Code, is amended by adding Section 501.1055 to read as follows:
Sec. 501.1055. PROJECTS RELATED TO PROMOTING HIGHER
EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES. In this subtitle, "project" includes
expenditures to provide scholarships to students who enroll in
institutions of higher education in order to attract and retain top
high school graduates and maintain a highly trained and dynamic
state and local workforce.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
