The bill would amend the Local Government Code to prohibit a justice of the peace from imposing a fee for the first copy of a document in a criminal case issued to a criminal defendant in the case, an attorney representing a criminal defendant in the case, or a prosecuting attorney. Local Government Impact If a justice of the peace has been imposing fees for the first copy of an applicable document, there would be a revenue loss. The amount would depend on how many copies are made and how much the justice of the peace has been charging. Otherwise, there would be no fiscal implications to units of local government.
