A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the issuance of license plates by the Texas Department
of Transportation to support disaster relief.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 504, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 504.659 to read as follows:
Sec. 504.659. DISASTER RELIEF SUPPORT. (a) The department
shall issue specialty license plates indicating support of disaster
relief. The department shall design an appropriate plate.
(b) After deduction of the department's administrative
costs, the remainder of the fee for issuance of the license plates
shall be deposited to the credit of the disaster contingency fund
established under Section 418.073, Government Code.
SECTION 2. Section 418.073(a), Government Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(a) The disaster contingency fund consists of:
(1) money appropriated to the fund; and
(2) money deposited to the fund under Section 504.659,
Transportation Code.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
