LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION February 27, 2009 TO: Honorable Jeff Wentworth, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence FROM: John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:SB633 by Seliger (Relating to the number of counties or municipalities necessary to establish a regional drug court program.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would reduce the number of counties or municipalities required to create a regional drug court program from three counties or three municipalities to two of either. Because the state is authorized to provide certain oversight of a drug court program and because those programs are required to provide certain information to the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the Governor, if any new drug court programs were to form as a result of enactment of provisions of the bill, the state would incur some administrative costs; however, those costs could be absorbed within existing resources. Local Government Impact It is assumed that any two counties or two municipalities would choose to establish a drug court program if those local government entities could absorb related expenses within available resources. Therefore, no significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Source Agencies: LBB Staff: JOB, TP, DB
