SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1024 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Elma R. Perez on the grand occasion of her 90th birthday; and WHEREAS, This gracious lady is well known for her charm and generosity of spirit, and she is a revered resident of San Benito; and WHEREAS, Elma Perez was born June 20, 1919, in San Benito to Jose and Sipriana Alvear Rodriguez; she married Gregorio Perez in 1950, and the couple raised a daughter, Noemi Ruth Perez; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Perez graduated from Mexican Baptist Seminary in El Paso and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene at a time when Hispanic women were severely underrepresented in higher education; she went on to have a long and productive career as a teacher; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Perez is a devout Christian who practices her faith in her daily life; she and her husband served for many years as Southern Baptist Home Missionaries, and she taught Sunday school and played piano at churches where her husband served as pastor; and WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community, Mrs. Perez is noted for her courage, her compassion for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby recognize Elma R. Perez as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to her best wishes for a happy and memorable 90th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
