                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169
 In Memory
 of
 Marian Gunst Crutchfield
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Marian Gunst
 Crutchfield, who died February 1, 2009, at the age of 92; and
 WHEREAS, Marian was born in Corpus Christi on October 12,
 1916, the only child of Lester and Mary Gunst; after a hurricane
 destroyed their home on North Beach in 1919, the family moved to
 Chicago and then Dallas before returning to Corpus Christi, where
 her father owned a book and stationery store; and
 WHEREAS, She graduated from Corpus Christi High School and
 attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans and The University
 of Texas; she was married to the late Tom Browne, the late Ben F.
 Vaughan, Jr., and John C. Crutchfield; and
 WHEREAS, Marian was one of the original debutantes and a
 longtime member of the Order of de Pineda and the Antiques and
 Flowers Garden Club; she was a member of the board of directors of
 KEDT Public Television and the advisory board of the Corpus
 Christi Museum; and
 WHEREAS, Noted for her grace, her generosity of spirit, and
 her devotion to her family, Marian enjoyed a full and active
 life; she was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, and she
 leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by her family
 and many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Marian Gunst Crutchfield: her husband, John C.
 Crutchfield, and his children, Catherine and Howard; her
 daughter, Barbara Browne McClellan, and her husband, John, and
 their children, Michael McClellan and Kathleen McClellan Parks;
 her son, Steve Browne, and his wife, Carolyn, and their
 daughters, Meredith, Emily, Sarah, and Ellen Browne; and the
 Vaughn and Rossi-Landi families; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Marian Gunst Crutchfield.
