SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 177 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize James W. Vaughn on the grand occasion of his 70th birthday; and WHEREAS, Mr. Vaughn was born March 5, 1939; known widely as Mr. V, he is the host of one of the most popular programs on Houston's community radio station KPFT-FM, Blues on the Move; and WHEREAS, Mr. Vaughn has been a driving force in emphasizing the cultural significance of the blues, an art form that originated in the African American community; he has drawn particular attention to Houston's place of prominence in the history of the blues through his radio program, and his untiring support of local artists and worthy causes has earned him the respect and admiration of countless people; and WHEREAS, A beloved member of his community, Mr. Vaughn is noted for his generosity, his compassion, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; and WHEREAS, In celebration of his birthday, friends, fans, and family are gathering on February 28, 2009, to congratulate him and share in this milestone in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend James W. Vaughn on his many contributions to the cultural legacy of our state and extend to him best wishes for a memorable 70th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
