SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 70 In Memory of Zachary Cook WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Second Lieutenant Zachary Cook, who died January 12, 2009, at the age of 22; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Cook was a United States Army officer assigned to the Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadre at Texas A&M University; he was participating in training exercises at the campus when the helicopter he was aboard crashed; and WHEREAS, Zac Cook was a 2004 graduate of Lufkin High School, where he was a star athlete on the baseball team, and a 2008 graduate of Texas A&M University, where he was commander of the cannon crew; he was also a member of the Parsons Mounted Cavalry and the Brazos Union Masonic Lodge; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Cook was committed to serving his country; a vibrant and outgoing young man, he was a natural leader whose reliability, courage, and unassuming nature earned him the respect and admiration of his comrades and his many friends; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted son and brother and enriched the lives of all who knew him with his warmth, his kindness, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; he will be deeply missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Zachary Cook and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved family; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Zachary Cook.
