The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code to authorize the Harris County Hospital District to appoint, contract for or employ physicians as necessary to fulfill the districts statutory mandate to provide medical care for the indigent and needy residents of the district. The bill would amend the Local Government Code to authorize the commissioners court of a county with a population of 3.3 million or more to appoint, contract for, or employ physicians to provide health care services to inmates in the custody of the sheriff. Local Government Impact Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
