                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 14, 2011      TO: Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB1632 by Gonzales, Larry (Relating to the dates by which public school teachers must provide notification of resignation from employment.), As Introduced    No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.   Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.  The bill would require teachers employed under probationary, continuing, or term contracts who intend to resign before the beginning of the next school year would be required to provide written notice of that intention at least 60 days prior to the beginning of the following school year.  In general, the bill would provide additional planning time for school district staffing decisions. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011 or immediately upon passage with the necessary voting margins.  It is assumed the provisions would apply to new contracts executed after the effective date due to the existence of case law holding that existing contracts incorporate the statutes in place at the time the contract originated.
