H.B. No. 1682 AN ACT relating to prohibiting school districts from requiring or coercing school district employees to make charitable contributions. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is amended by adding Section 22.011 to read as follows: Sec. 22.011. REQUIRING OR COERCING EMPLOYEES TO MAKE CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS. (a) A school district board of trustees or school district employee may not directly or indirectly require or coerce any school district employee to: (1) make a contribution to a charitable organization or in response to a fund-raiser; or (2) attend a meeting called for the purpose of soliciting charitable contributions. (b) A school district board of trustees or school district employee may not directly or indirectly require or coerce any school district employee to refrain from: (1) making a contribution to a charitable organization or in response to a fund-raiser; or (2) attending a meeting called for the purpose of soliciting charitable contributions. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.
