LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION May 24, 2011 TO: Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the House, House of Representatives FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:HB1797 by Naishtat (Relating to a person's eligibility to obtain a license in social work.), As Passed 2nd House No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend Chapter 505, Occupations Code, to specify that applicants with degrees from graduate programs that are in candidacy for accreditation would be eligible to take the social worker licensing examination. The bill would also exempt persons teaching social work at an institution of higher education or a private or independent institution of higher education from licensing requirements if certain conditions are met. It is assumed the Department of State Health Services can implement the bill with existing resources. The agency indicates that the bill could result in an undetermined loss of revenue to the state from licensure fees paid by those instructors who would no longer be required to hold a social worker license. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Source Agencies:537 State Health Services, Department of LBB Staff: JOB, CL, VJC, NB
