The bill would amend the Local Government Code to prohibit a department, commission, or municipality from releasing a photograph of a police officer unless the officer is charged with an offense; involved in a civil service hearing; used as evidence in a judiciary proceeding; or gives written consent. The bill also would exempt additional internal investigative divisions from being forced to expunge records in regard to disciplinary action taken against a fire fighter or police officer.
