The bill would amend Health and Safety Code Sections 614.019 (a) and 614.020 to make permissive the provision of continuity of care and service programs for juveniles with mental impairments in the juvenile justice system by the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments (TCOOMMI) if funding is not specifically appropriated for that purpose. Local Government Impact The Juvenile Probation Commission estimates that if local juvenile probation departments provided the services formerly funded through TCOOMMI, the cost could be up to $6.7 million depending on the types and quantity of services the departments decided to provide.
