The bill would amend the Government Code to permit the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to abate or defer a mandatory suspension or revocation of a drivers license for certain victims of identity theft. The bill would take effect immediately upon a two-thirds vote of all the members in each house. Otherwise the bill would take effect September 1, 2011. The Department of Public Safety has determined that the cost of implementing the provisions of the bill would not be significant.
