 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the first day of instruction for a school year in school
 districts in which a certain percentage of the students are
 military dependents.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 25.0811, Education Code, is amended by
 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
 (c)  Notwithstanding Subsection (a), a school district in
 which, in the preceding school year, at least 33 percent of students
 in enrollment had a parent or guardian who is a member of the armed
 forces of the United States may begin instruction for students for a
 school year on or after the third Monday in August.
 SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2011-2012
 school year.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
