The bill would amend the Family Code to indicate which persons are required to report suspicion of child abuse or neglect. The bill would require physicians to submit fetal tissue samples obtained from the performance of certain abortions to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) according to guidelines included in the bill. The bill would require DPS to preserve submitted samples until the 10th anniversary of the date on which DPS received the sample.  The bill would create a Class A misdemeanor offense that would apply to physicians who fail to submit the required samples.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
