The bill would repeal Section 545.425(b-1), Transportation Code, which requires a municipality, county, or other political subdivision to post a sign at the entrance to each school crossing zone that informs the operator of a motor vehicle that use of a wireless communication device is prohibited in the school crossing zone. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) anticipates a savings will result from removing the requirement to maintain or post signs at school crossing zones; however, this savings is not expected to be significant. Local Government Impact There could be a savings to a local governmental entity that would no longer be required to post a sign at the entrance to each school crossing zone as required by Section 45.425(b-1), but the amounts would vary depending on the current number of signs in a locality.
