 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
relating to the use of certain information by the State Bar of Texas
to notify a person licensed to practice law in this state of
 accredited continuing legal education activities.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 552.1176, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
 (d) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), on the written request
of a person sponsoring a legal education activity accredited by the
State Bar of Texas, the state bar may use the information listed in
Subsection (a) to notify a person licensed to practice law in this
state of the accredited continuing legal education activity.
Notification under this subsection may be by regular mail or e-mail
as requested by the person sponsoring the continuing legal
education activity. The state bar may charge the sponsoring person
the actual costs incurred as a result of the notification.
SECTION 2. This Act applies only to notification by the
State Bar of Texas regarding an accredited continuing legal
education activity that occurs on or after the effective date of
this Act. Notification by the state bar of an accredited continuing
legal education activity that occurs before the effective date of
this Act is governed by the law in effect immediately before the
effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for
 that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
