                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION   Revision 1         May 5, 2011      TO: Honorable Jim Jackson, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB274 by Creighton (Relating to attorney's fees, early dismissal, expedited trials, and the reform of certain remedies and procedures in civil actions.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code to reform certain remedies and procedures relating to civil litigation including attorneys fees, early dismissal and expedited trials.  The Supreme Court would be required to adopt rules regarding an expedited and fair resolution of non-meritorious cases. According to the Office of Court Administration (OCA), the provisions of the bill would be procedural steps and would not have a significant impact on the court's resources or staff. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
