                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 26, 2011      TO: Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB2909 by Branch (Relating to increasing awareness in this state of the importance of higher education.), As Engrossed    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would rename the Education: Go Get It awareness programs for middle school, junior high school and high school students provided by school districts and open-enrollment charter schools, to Generation Texas. The bill would also add the requirement that the programs include college readiness standards and expectations. The bill would require the Higher Education Coordinating Board to include certain information in their public awareness campaign promoting the value and availability of higher education. The Board would also be required to coordinate the campaign with the Texas Education Agency and P-16 Councils. Provisions of the bill would be implemented within existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
