A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the optional county fee in certain counties for the
county road and bridge fund.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 502.172, Transportation Code, is amended
by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to read as
follows:
(a) Except as provided by Subsection (a-1), the [The]
commissioners court of a county by order may impose an additional
fee, not to exceed $10, for registering a vehicle in the county.
(a-1) The commissioners court of a county that has a
population of 1.7 million or more and in which more than 75 percent
of the population lives in a single municipality by order may impose
an additional fee, not to exceed $20, for registering a vehicle in
the county.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
