                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 29, 2011      TO: Honorable Byron Cook, Chair, House Committee on State Affairs      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB2921 by Lewis (Relating to the power of the office of the attorney general to make certain examinations and inquiries.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Business Organizations Code and authorize the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to make certain inquiries of businesses or charities when the OAG believes that the entity is engaging in, or likely to engage in, an unlawful act. The bill could result in additional investigations and cases by the OAG within the Consumer Protection and Public Health Division. It is assumed that any additional costs associated with implementation of the bill could be absorbed within existing state resources.
