Fiscal Analysis

The bill would eliminate the requirement for a student to submit to random testing for the presence of illegal steroids in order to be eligible to participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) athletic competition.

The bill would eliminate the requirement for a student to submit to random testing for the presence of illegal steroids in order to be eligible to participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) athletic competition.

Methodology

For purposes of this estimate, under current law, it is assumed that the current level of funding for steroid testing would continue. Based on this assumption, the provisions of the bill are estimated to produce a savings of $875,000 in General Revenue annually.

Local Government Impact

School districts would no longer be required to conduct steroid testing of high school athletes.
