The bill would amend the Business and Commerce Code and prohibit a business from using a customers zip code after the purchase of goods. In addition, the Office of the Attorney (OAG) would be authorized to bring an action to recover a civil penalty for violations of the provisions of the bill. The bill may result in new complaints and investigations by the OAGs Consumer Protection and Public Health Division. However, it is anticipated that any additional costs associated with implementation of the legislation could be absorbed within existing resources.
