The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize a law enforcement agency of a municipality to use excess proceeds from the auction of an abandoned motor vehicle to compensate property owners whose property was damaged as a result of a pursuit involving the law enforcement agency. The bill would remove certain restrictions regarding compensation to property owners from law enforcement agencies. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house. If the bill does not receive the votes required to pass, the bill would take effect September 1, 2011.
