The bill would amend the Family Code to remove the requirement that an alleged/unknown father who failed to register with the paternity registry is entitled to a court-appointed attorney in a suit affecting the parent-child relationship. The amendment is not anticipated to have a fiscal implication for court operations. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. To the extent court-appointed attorney fees paid by counties would be reduced by the amendments in this bill, the possible savings statewide is not anticipated to be significant.
