The bill would amend the Government Code to allow the director of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to appoint reserve law enforcement officers. The bill would also require reserve law enforcement officers to execute and file a bond of $2,000 with DPS. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. The Comptroller of Public Accounts (CPA) indicates the impact of the provision regarding the bond cannot be determined because it is unknown how many reserve law enforcement officers will be appointed.
