The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to allow a protective order for a victim of a sexual assault to last for the lifetime of either the victim or the offender. Currently, the statute allows the lifetime duration only if the victim was under the age of 17 years at the time of the sexual assault. To the extent the bill would extend the length of protective orders, no significant impact on judicial workloads or fiscal implication to the state is anticipated. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
