The bill would prohibit the disposal of used computer equipment in a solid waste landfill or incinerator and would provide for the assessment of penalties for violation of the disposal prohibition. The bill would require the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to adopt rules to prohibit a person from knowingly disposing of computer equipment in a solid waste landfill or incinerator. The bill would exempt owners or operators of a municipal solid waste landfill or incinerator from being in violation if a good faith effort is made, if appropriate signs are posted, and if registered customers are notified in writing of the disposal prohibition. Passage of the bil is not expected to have a significant fiscal impact on the TCEQ. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
