The bill would amend Government Code to expand the list of active judicial officers who can receive a concealed handgun license under reduced requirements to include associate judges as defined by the Family Code. The bill would also amend the Penal Code to exempt the same group from certain handgun offenses. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. Amendments to the Penal Code would apply to offenses committed on or after the bill's effective date.This analysis assumes that any costs associated with implementing the bill's provisions could be met with existing resources and that implementing the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on the programs and workload of State corrections agencies or on the demand for resources of those agencies.
