A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to making an appropriation to the Texas Department of
Transportation for a streetcar line in Dallas.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION: PROPOSED DALLAS STREETCAR LINE.
The amount of $35 million is appropriated from the general revenue
fund for the fiscal biennium beginning September 1, 2011, to the
Texas Department of Transportation to promote economic development
through the construction by the City of Dallas of a streetcar line
connecting downtown Dallas and Oak Cliff. The department shall
monitor the expenditure of the appropriation to ensure that the
money is being used for the intended purpose.
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
