A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT relating to an exemption for school districts from security for court costs and appeal bond. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Chapter 6, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is amended by adding Section 6.004 to read as follows: Sec. 6.004. SCHOOL DISTRICTS EXEMPT FROM SECURITY FOR COURT COSTS AND APPEAL BOND. A school district may institute and prosecute suits without giving security for cost and may appeal from judgment without giving supersedeas or cost bond. SECTION 2. Section 6.004, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, as added by this Act, applies only to a suit or appeal filed on or after the effective date of this Act. A suit or appeal filed before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law as it existed immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
