The bill relates to excess undergraduate credit hours at public institutions of higher education. The bill amends Section 51.907 of the Education Code to prohibit general academic teaching institutions from counting courses dropped by a student enrolled in the institution if: 1) the student dropped the course while enrolled in a public junior college, and, 2) the student transferred to the general academic teaching institution after earning from another institution of higher education: (A) at least 30 semester credit hours; or (B) an associates degree. Each institution shall provide written notification to each undergraduate student of the provisions of this section before the end of the first semester in which the student is enrolled in the institution. Any costs associated with implementing the bill will be absorbed within current resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
