                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            May 17, 2011      TO: Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB995 by Gutierrez (Relating to provision by the secretary of state of notice to a candidate of the form of the candidate's name that will appear on the general election ballot.), As Engrossed    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would require the Secretary of State to provide certain notice by e-mail to each candidate included in the certification of nominees for statewide and district offices for placement on general election ballots. The notice would be required to contain the exact form for which the candidates name would be certified for placement on the ballot along with information on how to correct errors in the candidates name. It is anticipated that any costs associated with implementation of the legislation could be absorbed within existing resources. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds or on September 1, 2011. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
