No. 142 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Cameron Blizzard of Clear Lake has prevailed in his battle against cancer, and his courage and determination inspired countless people along the way; and WHEREAS, A junior at Clear Lake High School, Mr. Blizzard was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma on October 7, 2010, and three months later in January 2011, following chemotherapy and radiation treatment, he was given a clean bill of health by his oncologist at Texas Children's Cancer Center; and WHEREAS, Mr. Blizzard's peers rallied behind him, organizing numerous fund-raisers in his behalf; the CLHS student council designated a Team Cameron Day and sold more than 250 Team Cameron shirts with proceeds going to the Texas Children's Cancer Center, which also benefited from several student car washes; Mr. Blizzard's golf teammates were especially moved to act, and the boy's and girl's golf teams donated money from the sale of more than 600 Lymphoma bracelets to the Lymphoma Society; moreover, each team designated events in his honor; and WHEREAS, A variety of other endeavors also took place in a show of concern and encouragement for Mr. Blizzard; the Flairs Dance Team made a blanket for him that was signed by the student body, and CLHS athletic coaches ordered and wore Team Cameron golf shirts; Mr. Blizzard was further aided by Assisteens of the Bay Area, local churches, the Texas A&M golf team, and the Florida State University football team, and a website to help organize offers of assistance was set up by friends in the community; and WHEREAS, Cameron Blizzard has surmounted a major life challenge, and his cancer-free status is indeed cause for celebration; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Cameron Blizzard on overcoming cancer and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Blizzard as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
