 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Ella Whitley, a special education teacher at Midway
 Middle School in Hewitt, has been selected as a finalist for the
 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award; and
 WHEREAS, Since 2002, H-E-B has honored outstanding Texas
 educators with Excellence in Education Awards, and the program is
 now the largest of its kind in the state; finalists receive $1,000
 for themselves, as well as an equal amount for their school; and
 WHEREAS, With more than 20 years of experience, Ms. Whitley
 will be competing in the Lifetime Achievement Award category for
 the chance to split $50,000 with Midway Middle School; like all
 honorees, she was nominated by H-E-B customers and employees and by
 those in the community who are impressed with her work; she
 subsequently completed an application packet that included
 questions about her professional experiences, educational
 philosophies, and achievements both in and out of the classroom,
 and judges narrowed the field to 223 semifinalists; having made the
 first round, she competed in a regional judging process to become
 one of 40 finalists; and
 WHEREAS, This public acknowledgment of Ella Whitley's
 exceptional commitment to teaching reinforces what students,
 parents, and her fellow educators already know: that she is a
 dedicated and talented professional who justly deserves this honor;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Ella Whitley on her selection as a
 finalist for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award and that she be
 extended sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Whitley as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
