H.R. No. 1002 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Midway High School in Waco hosted its first annual varsity softball tournament February 24 through 26, 2011, and the Pantherettes came away as the inaugural champion; and WHEREAS, The team's outstanding play in the tournament included a commanding 12-2 win over Belton High School to advance to the title game against the Temple High Tem-Cats; and WHEREAS, In the final, Midway scored five runs in the first two innings and went on to post a 7-2 victory; Pantherettes Katie Neal, Monique Miller, and Kelley Schaefer were selected to the all-tournament team, and Amy Feind was named tournament most valuable player after she went 9-for-11 with four walks while playing dominating defense at first base; and WHEREAS, A tournament win is a notable accomplishment that shows that a team can excel against top-level competition, and the Pantherettes may take justifiable pride in their fine performance; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Midway High School softball team on winning the First Annual Midway Varsity Tournament and extend to the players and coaches sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
