No. 1003 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may temper the profound sadness felt at the passing of Mary Sykora of West on March 1, 2011, at the age of 94; and WHEREAS, Born on March 8, 1916, in Abbott, the daughter of Frank and Mary Janda Adamcik, the former Mary Adamcik attended the Ross School and St. Mary's School in West; she married Henry J. Sykora in 1935, at a ceremony held in West, and the couple became the parents of a son, Leonard; Mary and Henry Sykora shared a rewarding relationship that spanned 30 years, until Mr. Sykora's death in 1965; through the years, Mrs. Sykora rejoiced in seeing her family grow to include three more generations; and WHEREAS, In addition to taking care of her loved ones and her home, Mrs. Sykora worked for the Hyatt Hotels Corporation in Dallas for 15 years, and she was employed as a dental assistant for more than a quarter-century; she also went into business for herself as a beauty consultant for Mary Kay; and WHEREAS, Strongly rooted in her religious and cultural heritage, Mary Sykora was a congregant of St. Mary Catholic Church of the Assumption and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court No. 829, as well as a member of KJZT Society No. 11, SPJST Lodge No. 54, and the Czech Women's Organization; in her leisure time, she enjoyed entertaining, cooking, and sewing; and WHEREAS, Mary Sykora lived a rich and purposeful life, and those who were privileged to share in her love and friendship will forever remember her with great tenderness and affection; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Sykora and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter-in-law, Joy Sykora; to her granddaughter, Mary Faye McBride, and her husband, Ross; to her great-grandchildren, Regina DuShane and her husband, John, Lindsay Vaughan, Wyatt McBride, and Audrey McBride; to her great-great-granddaughters, Zoe and Myley DuShane; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Sykora.
