H.R. No. 1020 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Members of the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce are visiting the State Capitol on March 29, 2011, and this occasion provides a welcome opportunity to pay tribute to this outstanding community organization and the city it serves; and WHEREAS, The Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce traces its history to 1965, when 75 members of the local Lions Club gathered to discuss economic and industrial development and realized the need for a permanent chamber; the group was officially founded on April 18 of the following year; and WHEREAS, In the decades since, the Burleson Chamber has played a central role in the life of the city; in addition to sponsoring ongoing events and programs to benefit area businesses, the chamber undertakes various community projects, charity fund-raisers, and other initiatives to further Burleson's prosperity and to make it an even better place to live and work; and WHEREAS, The rapid growth of the Burleson area has made the organization's work all the more valuable; the city's population has increased by 75 percent since 2000, which is a testament to its vibrant character and also an indication of the outstanding opportunities available to companies and entrepreneurs; and WHEREAS, Despite its robust expansion, the city retains its historic hometown feel, and a key element in its appeal is the Old Town district; this neighborhood has been the focus of a recent revitalization effort that has preserved its distinctive character while achieving improvements in streetscape and building design; and WHEREAS, Burleson also benefits from the presence of exceptional educational resources, including the local campuses of Texas Wesleyan University and Hill College; these institutions help prepare residents for productive careers while ensuring that skilled and knowledgeable workers are available for local businesses; and WHEREAS, With its many positive attributes, Burleson has become a thriving area that is home to more than 36,000 residents of North Texas, and the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce is indeed deserving of recognition for the vital role it has played in this Lone Star success story; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby honor the members of the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol and extend to them sincere best wishes for a productive visit to Austin; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the chamber as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
