No. 1040 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Paducah High School reached the pinnacle of success by claiming the University Interscholastic League 1A Division II state championship with a victory in the title game on March 12, 2011, at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin; and WHEREAS, Finishing the year with an outstanding record of 29 wins and just 6 losses, the Dragons took home their first state crown since 1988; during the team's triumphant journey through the playoffs, it defeated Ropesville, Ackerly Sands, Happy, and Anton High Schools before besting Roxton High School in the semifinals; and WHEREAS, In the championship game against top-ranked Bronte High, senior guard Andrew Hastings led the way for Paducah with 19 points, 18 of which came on three-point shots, and fellow senior Lonnie Hurd added 10 points and 12 rebounds to help secure the 45-30 victory; in addition, valuable contributions to the team's success were provided throughout the year by the other members of the roster: Cliff Poteet, Trey McGruder, Garrett Thompson, Austin Parton, Willie Cantrell, Devron Brisco, A. J. Cantrell, Cody Austin, and Bobby Evans; and WHEREAS, Ably guided by head coach Jay Cantrell and assistant coaches Tyler Adams, Amy Bowles, and Johnny Willis, the Dragons also received vital support from team managers Jeremiah Deleon, Parker Hicks, Cole Parton, and Leslie Thomas; and WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and these talented student-athletes will treasure the memory of their accomplishment for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the boys' basketball team of Paducah High School on winning the UIL 1A Division II state championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
