No. 1048 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The girls' basketball team of Wylie High School in Abilene brought the 2010-2011 season to a triumphant conclusion on March 5, when it claimed the University Interscholastic League 3A state championship; and WHEREAS, In their 66-58 victory over Lovejoy High School of Lucas, the Lady Bulldogs were led by junior Peyton Little, who scored 43 points, the second-highest total ever recorded in a 3A playoff game; Ms. Little also had five steals, four rebounds, and four assists and was named the game's most valuable player; senior Natalie Davis added 11 points and 8 rebounds, while freshman Bailey Turner scored 6 points; and WHEREAS, This was the second consecutive appearance in the championship game for Wylie High, which lost a heartbreaking overtime contest to Liberty Eylau High School in 2010; refusing to be denied, the team dedicated itself to the goal of returning to the state tournament this season, and the Lady Bulldogs' exceptional play resulted in the third girls' basketball title in school history; and WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the culmination of countless hours of hard work and an enduring commitment to excellence, and these talented student-athletes and coach Tri Danley may take justifiable pride in this accomplishment; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Wylie High School Lady Bulldogs basketball team on winning the UIL 3A state championship and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
