 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Knights of Peter Claver and the members of its
 ladies auxiliary, Council and Court No. 72, are hosting their 19th
 annual scholarship luncheon and fashion gala on April 2, 2011, in
 Houston; and
 WHEREAS, A historically African American Catholic lay
 organization, the Knights of Peter Claver is dedicated to serving
 the community and people in need, as well as to promoting social
 justice and education and to assisting the sick, the economically
 disadvantaged, and those with disabilities; and
 WHEREAS, Each year, the members of Council and Court No. 72
 contribute to the Houston area by awarding scholarships to
 deserving high school seniors; moreover, the event is an
 opportunity to honor notable local leaders as "Pioneers in the
 Community"; and
 WHEREAS, The men and women of the Knights of Peter Claver
 further distinguish themselves through their support of a number of
 charitable projects, including food pantries and local shelters;
 they also contribute to such groups as the Sickle Cell Foundation
 and the United Negro College Fund; and
 WHEREAS, The members of the Knights of Peter Claver and its
 ladies auxiliary have demonstrated a lasting commitment to helping
 others, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize their exceptional
 efforts in behalf of the greater good; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 19th annual scholarship
 luncheon and fashion gala and extend to all those associated with
 the Knights of Peter Claver and its ladies auxiliary, Council and
 Court No. 72, sincere best wishes for a memorable event; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the organizations as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
