 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
 a close when Felix Derwyn Cook of Houston passed away on February
 21, 2011, at the age of 59; and
 WHEREAS, Born on March 7, 1951, to Felix Lopez Cook and Opal
 Augusta Ross Cook, Mr. Cook attended public school in the Bayou City
 and graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School; he received a
 bachelor of business administration degree in management from Texas
 A&M University--Kingsville; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of his 27-year career with
 Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Felix Cook set a standard of
 excellence in the workplace, forged many friendships with his
 colleagues, and took pride in his role as systems administrator for
 the creation of the E-911 database because of its potential to save
 lives; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Cook's strong faith sustained him through the
 years, beginning with his childhood affiliation with Trinity
 Gardens First Baptist Church; kind and caring, this generous
 individual actively supported charities such as Bread of Life,
 which he led as president; he also served as president of the
 Houston Chapter of NETWORK; and
 WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of
 one man's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable mark on
 the world as they move through it, and Felix Cook was indeed one
 such person; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Felix Derwyn Cook
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 wife of 36 years, Jeri Lyn Cook; to his daughter, Cassye DomiNique
 Cook; to his stepdaughter, Shannon Dione Grigsby; to his father,
 Felix Cook; to his mother-in-law, Winnie Mauryne Grigsby; to his
 step-grandson, Nicolas Spenser Grigsby; to his brother, Dwayne
 Butler Cook; to his sister, Alecia Davis; and to his other relatives
 and many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Felix Cook.
