No. 1101 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, In an impressive display of scoring power and defensive dominance, the Waxahachie High School girls' soccer team secured the District 28-4A championship with a 4-1 victory over Corsicana High School on March 18, 2011; and WHEREAS, The win topped off a successful regular season for the Lady Indians, who outscored their opponents 66-2 in district play en route to a 9-0-1 record, while establishing an overall mark of 18-1-4; and WHEREAS, In the title-clinching game, the Lady Indians got out in front early on a goal by Karleigh Hector and were soon up 2-0 when Natalie Kelly set up Lindsey Williams for a score with a perfectly placed corner kick; and WHEREAS, After Corsicana scored, breaking Waxahachie's eight-game shutout streak, Emily Saunders made it 3-1 in the 50th minute; Ms. Hector got the game's final tally with an assist from Ms. Saunders; and WHEREAS, Winning with a true team effort, the Lady Indians also received valuable contributions throughout the season from the other members of the roster: Sarah Hay, Sylvia Castillo, Griselda Burciaga, Rian Smith, Millie Atkins, Sara Sanchez, Tierney Thomison, Karina Martinez, Jacey Hamilton, Marybeth Martin, Danielle Tesei, Bridget Reid, Elizabeth Gish, Caroline Clifton, Haley Atkins, Elizabeth Martinez, Mica Mottla, Kayla Lawrence, Jules Johanson, and Hailey David; and WHEREAS, Head coach Jason Venable has once again taken his charges to the University Interscholastic League playoffs, and he was ably assisted by coaches Seth Riley, Linda Thurman, and Edward De La Cruz; and WHEREAS, Winning a district championship is the culmination of countless hours of hard work and an enduring commitment to excellence, and these talented student-athletes may reflect proudly on their accomplishment as they contend for the state title in the 4A playoffs; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Waxahachie High School Lady Indians soccer team on winning the 2010-2011 District 28-4A championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
