H.R. No. 1108
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Gary Base, an esteemed North Texas businessperson
and civic leader, was recognized by the Plano Chamber of Commerce as
its 2009 Business Executive of the Year; and
WHEREAS, The president and chief executive officer of
ViewPoint Financial Group (VPFG) and ViewPoint Bank, Mr. Base
joined the latter in 1987, when it was known as Community Credit
Union; under his leadership, ViewPoint Bank has experienced
phenomenal growth and success; based in Plano, it reorganized in
2006 to become a subsidiary of VPFG, a publicly traded company, and
it now ranks as one of the largest financial institutions in Collin
County; during Mr. Base's tenure, ViewPoint Bank has expanded from
2 locations to 23, and its assets have increased from $179 million
to $2.4 billion; and
WHEREAS, Gary Base has not only demonstrated exceptional
vision in guiding the development of ViewPoint Bank, but has
ensured that the bank maintains its focus on community service; in
addition to meeting the financial needs of North Texas consumers
and businesses, the bank supports a number of charitable causes,
including Habitat for Humanity, the Collin County Children's
Advocacy Center, and Senior Housing Crime Prevention; moreover, its
staff organizes financial literacy and planning classes for schools
and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Arkansas and the
Stanford Graduate School of Business, Mr. Base brings to his
responsibilities more than 40 years of executive management
experience; over the years he has also shared his knowledge and
expertise with many other organizations; he currently serves on the
Mutual Savings Association Advisory Committee of the Office of
Thrift Supervision; in addition, he is a former director of the
North Texas Tollway Authority and the Texas Bankers Association and
a former chair of the Plano Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, A highly accomplished professional, Gary Base has
compiled an impressive record of achievement while contributing
significantly to the progress of communities throughout Collin
County, and he is indeed worthy of this notable honor; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Gary Base on his selection as the
2009 Business Executive of the Year by the Plano Chamber of Commerce
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Base as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
