No. 1154 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Wolfe City Public Library is housed in the old Santa Fe Depot, which is commemorating its 100th anniversary on October 1, 2011; and WHEREAS, Constructed in 1911, the Santa Fe Depot building initially sat at the junction of the Cotton Belt and Santa Fe Railroads, on land donated by E. C. Wolfe and Manson H. Wolfe; and WHEREAS, The Santa Fe Railroad gave the building to the city in 1985 and it was moved to its present-day location at 203 East Williams Street, on a parcel of land donated by Jim and Joan Rowse; the half of the depot that once served ticketing purposes was renovated for library use, maintaining as many of the original features as possible; and WHEREAS, Since 2002, the Wolfe City Public Library board and Friends of the Library have worked diligently to obtain funds for restoration of the facility and for eventual expansion into the entire depot space; the building has been painted in colors approved by the National Trust Historic Preservation; the palette of cream with geranium red, mosaic blue, and yellow trim pays tribute to the traditional color scheme of Santa Fe Railroad engines; and WHEREAS, The Santa Fe Depot provides a vital link to the rich heritage and architectural history of Texas, and its preservation is a testament to the community spirit of dedicated supporters; patrons of the Wolfe City Public Library can indeed take pride in the unique building that houses their beloved institution; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Santa Fe Depot and extend to all those participating in the celebration sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the library as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
