H.R. No. 1156
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. David Gorden Anthony of Houston is retiring as
superintendent of Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District on
June 30, 2011, bringing to a close an outstanding seven-year tenure
in that post; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Florien High School in
Florien, Louisiana, Dr. Anthony attended Panola Junior College in
Carthage and East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, where he
obtained his bachelor's degree in secondary education; he
subsequently earned both a master of education degree in
administration and supervision and a doctorate in secondary
education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches,
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony began his career as a teacher at his alma
mater, Florien High School, in 1974; he was named principal of
Converse High School in Converse, Louisiana, in 1978, and in 1987 he
was appointed superintendent of High Island ISD; over the ensuing
years, he served as superintendent of the Mt. Pleasant, Texas City,
and McKinney school districts, and in 2004 he was named
superintendent of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, the third-largest school
district in Texas; in this role he has been responsible for more
than 106,000 students and 83 campuses and special program
facilities; under his leadership, the district received its third
consecutive Recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency in
2010, with 97 percent of the individual schools rated as either
Recognized or Exemplary; and
WHEREAS, Generous with his time, Dr. Anthony serves on the
board of directors of the Texas School Alliance and on the Texas
Association of School Administrators Cabinet of Superintendents,
which meets routinely with the Texas commissioner of education and
staff of the Texas Education Agency; he also chairs the board for
the Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center and serves on the board of the
Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, A highly accomplished administrator, Dr. Anthony
has led the way in fostering a supportive and challenging
educational environment in the Cy-Fair school district, and his
hard work and dedication have benefited many area schoolchildren;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. David Anthony on his retirement
as superintendent of Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all
his endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Anthony as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
